Chicago, IL, September 14, 2022—The Counselors of Real Estate, an international consortium of commercial property advisors, has announced its 2023 leadership team. William McCarthy, CRE, will lead the 1,000-member organization as Global Chair.
Mr. McCarthy is president of W.P.J. McCarthy and Company Ltd. in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. Invited to Counselor membership in 1995, he is primarily involved in real property advisory services, development, ownership, leasing, and management. He holds nine university degrees and will be only the third Canadian to serve as chair since The Counselors organization was established in 1953. Mr. McCarthy also holds several additional real estate designations–10 in all–including the FRICS designation from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and the CPM designation from the Institute of Real Estate Management. He is also a former president of the Real Estate Institute of Canada, and regularly conducts high level pro bono work globally.
Anthony F. DellaPelle, Esq, CRE, a partner in the law firm of McKirdy, Riskin, Olson, & DellaPelle in Morris Plains, New Jersey, is the First Vice Chair of The Counselors of Real Estate and will assume the chairmanship of the organization in 2024. He handles eminent domain, condemnation, redevelopment law, and real estate tax appeals. Mr. DellaPelle is also a certified civil trial attorney and is the only New Jersey attorney selected to the Owners Counsel of America, a nationwide association of leading eminent domain lawyers. Invited to Counselor membership in 2011, Mr. DellaPelle attended Franklin & Marshall College and earned a JD degree from Seton Hall University School of Law.
John Hentschel, CRE, president of Hentschel Real Estate Services in Abingdon, Maryland, was named Second Vice Chair. Mr. Hentschel is a real estate advisor, appraiser, and broker, and is publisher of The Counselors’ peer-reviewed professional journal Real Estate Issues. Invited to Counselor membership in 1990, he also holds the FRICS designation from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and the MAI credential from the Appraisal Institute.
Three Liaison Vice Chairs have also been named to oversee the organization’s committee structure: Deborah Cloutier, CRE, president and founder of RE Tech Advisors in McLean, VA; Steven Norris, CRE, principal of Norris Realty Advisors in Pasadena, CA; and Robert Pliska, CRE, president of Sperry Commercial Global Affiliates – Property Investment Counselors in Birmingham, MI.
