My practice of 19 years is focused on complex, real estate litigation. My primary areas of expertise, however, are eminent domain, land use, special district, and real estate related litigation. I represent landowners in urban, rural and mountain resort areas in a variety of contexts including urban renewal, open space, highway and other public facility acquisitions, with particular expertise in redevelopment, industrial and special purpose properties. I have successfully challenged public purpose and defended competing public purposes cases. While I have tried numerous valuation and real estate cases to juries, courts and commissioners, I also spend a substantial amount of time in pre-litigation counseling and negotiations to obtain the best results for my clients. On the government side, I have represented special districts and pipeline companies in acquisitions using eminent domain. In addition to eminent domain, other areas in which I have considerable experience include special district litigation, homeowner association litigation, quiet title and adverse possession actions, easement disputes, landlord/tenant disputes, property tax appeals, and representing landowners and developers in disputes regarding development rights.
