A Closer Look
Michael J. Maglocci, CRE, MAI, MRICS is Executive Managing Partner and Regional Manager of Joseph J. Blake and Associates, Inc.’s (Blake) Midwestern Regional Office located in Chicago, Illinois. Prior to that, Mr. Maglocci was a Senior Associate Appraiser in the Blake’s Rocky Mountain Regional Office (Denver, Colorado) from the period of March 1982 until April 1985. Prior to working at Joseph J. Blake and Associates, Mr. Maglocci was employed as a real estate consultant by Real Estate Appraisal Services, Inc. of Gaithersburg, MD and Coldwell Banker Mortgage of Falls Church, VA (August of 1979 to February 1982). Mr. Maglocci graduated in 1979 from Pennsylvania State University and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration with a special concentration in real estate and is a State Certified General Real Estate Appraiser in Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana, Iowa and Minnesota. Mr. Maglocci was the 1999 President of the Chicago Chapter of the Appraisal Institute, one of the nation’s largest chapters, as well as a past member of the national organization’s Non-Residential Demonstration Appraisal Report Subcommittee. He has served on the Appraisal Institute’s Masters Degree Appraiser Program Committee and was the liaison with DePaul University’s Real Estate Program. He was also a member of the Appraisal Institute’s Regional Ethics Panel and served on the National Chapter Services Committee. He was elected to the National Board of Directors of the Appraisal Institute through 2011 and was a member of the Appraisal Institute’s National Audit Committee, Government Relations Committee and Finance Committee. He is a founding member and also served as President (2008) of ICAP, the Illinois Coalition of Appraisal Professionals, a political action organization made up of the Illinois Chapters of the original charter institutions of the Appraisal Foundation. Mr. Maglocci has provided or directed appraisal and consulting studies on a variety of institutional and non-institutional grade real property in over 30 states and has prepared or supervised thousands appraisals that represent an aggregate value in the billions of dollars over the last 35 years. Mr. Maglocci’s current duties include the appraisal of all types of investment grade and non-investment grade real estate, including office buildings, regional malls, power centers, community centers, neighborhood centers, industrial properties and apartments, condominium complexes, residential subdivisions, hotels, cineplexes, restaurants, vacant land and special use properties, as well as providing related consulting and litigation support. His other duties include management and administrative activities for Joseph J. Blake’s Midwestern Regional Office and executive management duties for the firm at large. His clients include a variety of public pension funds, large institutional investors, pension fund advisors, insurance companies and banks and prominent law firms. Mr. Maglocci has been qualified as an expert witness in Federal Bankruptcy Court in the State of Wisconsin (Milwaukee) and Illinois (Chicago) and has given oral and written testimony in each. He has also testified in the Supreme Court of New York. In addition, he has provided testimony in litigation matters, both civil and criminal.
