The Counselors of Real Estate Announces 2025 Leadership

Maryland’s John Hentschel, CRE® Named Global Chair

Chicago, IL, January 2, 2025—The Counselors of Real Estate, a global organization of commercial property advisors, has announced its 2025 leadership team, with John Hentschel, CRE, leading the 1,000-member group as Global Chair.

Owner and President of Hentschel Real Estate Services in Abingdon, Maryland, Mr. Hentschel is a real estate advisor, appraiser, broker, and negotiator of complex transactions and public-private partnerships in the U.S. and international marketplace.  A recognized educator and author, he offers strategic advice as well as valuation and transactional services to businesses as well as government, financial, and nonprofit organizations.  He also provides expert testimony and litigation strategy and support.

Mr. Hentschel was formerly the Chief Real Estate Officer for the City of Baltimore and senior advisor to the Mayor and elected leaders.  He directed its Department of Real Estate and was responsible for property valuation, acquisition, disposition, leasing, and management of the city’s diverse portfolio of 7,000 properties and three million square feet of leased space.

Invited to Counselor membership in 1990, Mr. Hentschel also holds the FRICS designation from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and the MAI credential from the Appraisal Institute.

John Baczewski, CPA, CRE, of Summerville, South Carolina, was named First Vice Chair.  Mr. Baczewski is president of Real Estate Fiduciary Services LLC.  Invited to Counselor membership in 2012, he is an independent fiduciary focusing on conflict resolution, transition management, investment due diligence, and asset management workouts and restructurings.

Deborah Cloutier, CRE, was named Second Vice Chair.  Invited to Counselor membership in 2017, she is President & Founder of RE Tech Advisors in McLean, VA, as well as the Chief Sustainability Officer of Legence, a Blackstone company and an integrated provider of energy efficiency and sustainability solutions.

Named 2025 Liaison Vice Chairs were Graham Grady, Esq, CRE, a partner with Taft, Stettinius & Hollister, Chicago; Debbie Nisson, CRE, a real estate consultant in Shady Side, Maryland; Sharon Ann Miller, CRE, Chief Executive Officer, Hillcrest Finance, New York City; and Jon Yamaguchi, CRE, President and CEO, Yamaguchi & Yamaguchi, Honolulu.
