Francis, who splits time between Chicago, Illinois and Doha, Qatar, discusses the gender imbalance of the construction industry in Qatar. It’s estimated that at most construction sites around the world, 99% of workers are men. Qatar is no exception, with less than 200 women in the entire industry. “Many of the region’s female engineers never ultimately enter the workforce in the field of engineering after graduation or leave the workforce due to family responsibilities,” says Francis.
