Abstract: Futurists have assumed that technology will be unfriendly to the real estate industry, with such phenomena as the paperless office, telecommuting, and electronic commerce negatively affecting the demand for commercial space. This manuscript examines some of the statistics and economic principles, and comes to a contrary conclusion. The author maintains that technology is the ally of the real estate industry, not its enemy.
