A LULU of a Case: Gauging Property Value Impacts in Rural Areas

Fall 2004, Vol 29, No 3

Abstract: The siting of so-called LULUs (Locally Undesirable Land Uses) in rural areas often triggers public review. The potential impacts on local property values must be addressed as one of the criteria for project approval. This paper discusses how outside studies and macro-economic trends can be used by valuation experts to support rational conclusions in otherwise data-poor rural areas.
