The article summarizes the results of a survey of major real estate lenders which was performed by Hanford/Healy Appraisal Company. The purpose of the survey was to quantify lenders’ perceptions of environmental risks and the effects of these perceptions on underwriting policy. The eight multiple-part questions used in this survey focused on the lenders’ concern about specific issues. The article also discusses some key environmental issues which furnish insight into lenders’ perceptions of risk.
