Abstract: In the past few years, foreign investors have shown an increasing appetite for U.S. real estate. The growing interest in this investment by foreign buyers has raised questions about the long-term consequences of these acquisitions for U.S. real estate markets. Specifically, does passive acquisition of existing buildings by foreign investors foreshadow vertical integration into real estate businesses and activities?
