Helsel Named to Prestigious Real Estate Roundtable
James Helsel, Jr., CRE, partner with RSR Realtors® in Harrisburg, Penn., has
been named to the Real Estate Roundtable, a Washington, D.C.-based
organization that brings together leaders of the nation's top public and privately
held real estate ownership, development, lending and management firms
with leaders of major national real estate trade associations to jointly address key national policy issues related to real estate and the overall economy.
Helsel also has been elected 2008 Treasurer of the National Association of
REALTORS®, and recently has been nominated as a director of the Federal
Home Loan Bank Board of Pittsburgh.

Banner Counseling Henderson, Nev.
Gary S. Banner, CRE, currently is consulting for the City of Henderson, Nev., performing a market study of potential new apartments. Banner will be analyzing rent levels, unit mixes and determining whether apartments or townhouses will be more appropriate for the location.

Commercial Real Estate Index Launched
Lawrence Souza, CRE, managing director of Index Services with Charles
Schwab Investment Management of San Francisco, announced that
his firm, together with Standard & Poor’s (S&P), has launched a set of constant-
quality transaction-based commercial real estate indices, called the Standard
& Poor’s Commercial Real Estate (SPCREX) Indices. The Chicago Mercantile
Exchange (CME) began offering standardized futures and options contracts on
these indices in October.
The indices are comprised of ten commercial real estate indices, a national
composite, five geographic regions and four national property sectors that are
designed to provide investors with reliable and consistent benchmarks for
commercial real estate prices in the U.S.

Apgar Launches Oxford Real Estate MBA Program
CRE Mahlon “Sandy” Apgar writes, “Earlier this year, I enjoyed a glorious spring
term at Oxford University where I was a Fellow at the Said Business School,
designed and taught the first MBA Real Estate Course, and chaired the second
annual Oxford Real Estate Summit. The course was very popular (oversubscribed
three-fold), with four new cases and class participation by visiting executives. RICS Chief Executive Louis Armstrong and his team were closely involved. I'm also writing my next major article, ‘What Leaders Learn From Real Estate,’ having completed 20 wide-ranging interviews with CEOs, board members and others.”

Muldavin Continues Speaking Trail on Green Development
In October, Scott Muldavin, CRE, executive director of the Green Building Finance
Consortium, took part in the Green Development lecture series, sponsored by
the Presidio School of Management and UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business. Muldavin spoke on the challenges of valuing and underwriting sustainable
properties, and provided suggestions to help developers identify and work with capital sources.

Norris Firm Named Leading Appraisal Firm
Commercial Property News magazine named Norris Realty Advisors as one of
the top 50 “Leading National Appraisal Firms” in its “best of the best” issue. Norris Realty is led by Steve Norris, CRE, who said, “On this distinguished list were the typical big firms, and despite the competition, we made the list for the first time!
